A comprehensive search and rescue mission is currently ongoing in the Caribbean Sea for a duo of missing sailboats loaded with humanitarian supplies en route from the Mexican coast to Havana.

Military Search Efforts Deployed

Authorities in Mexico has dispatched naval teams and search planes to search for the two vessels, which were had on board at least nine total sailors, as stated by a navy statement.

The vessels had been expected to arrive in Cuba's capital on either Tuesday or Wednesday, but there has been a complete lack of contact from them and no confirmation of their safe arrival, authorities reported.

The Situation of Relief to the Nation

Cuba has relied heavily on humanitarian shipments from Mexico over the past few weeks, as the island grapples with multiple national electricity failures.

"Both crews and captains are seasoned mariners, and both vessels are fitted with suitable navigational gear and emergency beacons," an official involved in the effort stated.

The nine-person crew are from Poland, France, Cuba and the US. Officials said it has been in touch with rescue coordination centers from the involved countries along with their diplomatic representatives.

"Our team is co-operating fully with the officials and continue to be hopeful in the crews' ability to safely arrive in Havana," the official further stated.

Earlier Relief Shipment

Just days before, the government in Havana warmly welcomed and officially received a separate vessel that had carried 14 tons of humanitarian aid to the nation.

That vessel, called "a new Granma" following the name of the boat in which Fidel Castro came back to Cuba to begin the revolution in the 1950s, brought solar equipment, pharmaceuticals, formula milk, bicycles and foodstuffs.

Wider International Climate

Non-governmental organizations and volunteers have been at the forefront of efforts to ship critical assistance to Cuba since January, coinciding with the time a oil sanctions on the country came into effect.

International organizations have since highlighted ""severe" shortages of supplies, with over fifty thousand surgical procedures postponed in Cuba amid energy rationing.

Diplomatic measures have been ramped up lately, with remarks from different officials emphasizing the complicated nature of bilateral relations.

Responding to certain statements, a prominent Cuban official insisted that "the political system of Cuba is non-negotiable."

Indications suggest that early stages of talks had begun, although their ongoing development remains unclear.

The naval forces stated it was committed to using every available asset at its disposal to find the sailboats and ensure the well-being of the people on board.

At this time, there has been silence on the disappeared vessels by the Cuban government.
