Former Doctor Faces Assault Allegations Against Thirty-Eight Individuals in His Care
Legal authorities have announced that a former physician has been charged with carrying out sexual assaults involving thirty-eight individuals who were patients.
The Serious Allegations
The accused, Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham is accused of numerous sexual offences – including acts against children younger than 13 – between 2017 to 2021.
A deputy chief prosecutor commented, “Our prosecutors have diligently worked to support a thorough and intricate police inquiry, carefully reviewing the available evidence to determine that there is a strong case to bring the case to trial and that it is in the public interest.”
The Police Inquiry
These allegations come after what investigators described as a “detailed inquiry” into alleged sexual offences at two hospitals: a hospital in Stoke-on-Trent and Russells Hall hospital.
Spencer is due to appear at the local magistrates' court on 20 January.
Breakdown of Charges
The charging documents outline the forty-five sexual offences comprise:
- 15 counts of sexual assault.
- 17 counts of assault by penetration.
- 9 counts of sexual assault of a child under 13.
- Three counts of penetrative assault on a child under thirteen.
- 1 count of attempted penetrative assault.
