Former Doctor Faces Assault Allegations Against Thirty-Eight Individuals in His Care

Legal authorities have announced that a former physician has been charged with carrying out sexual assaults involving thirty-eight individuals who were patients.

The Serious Allegations

The accused, Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham is accused of numerous sexual offences – including acts against children younger than 13 – between 2017 to 2021.

A deputy chief prosecutor commented, “Our prosecutors have diligently worked to support a thorough and intricate police inquiry, carefully reviewing the available evidence to determine that there is a strong case to bring the case to trial and that it is in the public interest.”

The Police Inquiry

These allegations come after what investigators described as a “detailed inquiry” into alleged sexual offences at two hospitals: a hospital in Stoke-on-Trent and Russells Hall hospital.

Spencer is due to appear at the local magistrates' court on 20 January.

Breakdown of Charges

The charging documents outline the forty-five sexual offences comprise:

  • 15 counts of sexual assault.
  • 17 counts of assault by penetration.
  • 9 counts of sexual assault of a child under 13.
  • Three counts of penetrative assault on a child under thirteen.
  • 1 count of attempted penetrative assault.

Police have asked individuals with information to contact the relevant police force.
