Manchester United Set to Secure German Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side

The forward, with half a year left on her deal, is known as a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. Her arrival will be seen as a major coup for the WSL side.

Departure from Munich has been anticipated since she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the club's fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its leading forwards. According to reports, all the paperwork for the transfer are now finalised.

Reliable Goal Threat to Boost United's Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a significant uplift to the team's attacking options. She has been highly consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford

The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when the club seem to be building positive momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has brought additional business:

  1. The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

On the midfielder's new deal, a club official commented: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having joined from a side from the American league, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
