One of the original creators behind the famous frozen dessert company Ben & Jerry's has claimed how corporate owner the multinational conglomerate prevented the launch of an innovative pro-Palestinian frozen dessert product.

Ben Cohen, that established the company with his partner, revealed that he will personally create this new flavor within an individual series highlighting issues the company was barred from addressing publicly.

Ongoing Dispute Between Founders versus Parent Company

The recent announcement escalates the ongoing conflict among the internationally recognized dessert company with its corporate parent, the UK-based consumer goods giant that acquired the ice cream brand since 2000.

The co-founders have asserted how Unilever along with their ice cream division Magnum unlawfully blocked their company from "honouring its social mission".

The Fruit Sorbet as a Symbol of Solidarity

The entrepreneur stated through an Instagram video how he's developing an innovative watermelon-based sorbet, requesting public suggestions for the product's name plus additional components.

“I'm accomplishing what they were prevented from doing,” the founder declared from a cooking set. “I'm creating a watermelon-based frozen dessert that calls for permanent peace in Palestine while demanding repairing the damage that was done there.”

The watermelon has become a symbol for support for the Palestinian people due to its colors, which match the colors in the Palestinian flag – red, green, black and white.

Previous Activism and Recent Changes

In 2021, Ben & Jerry's refused to sell their merchandise in territories occupied by Israel, resulting in the parent company transferring their Israel business over to a local licensee, thereby permitting continued sales in disputed territories.

This upcoming product line is being created through Ben's Best, the socially conscious dessert company which was first created several years back for endorsing former political contender Senator Sanders with the product "Bernie's Back".

Management Changes and Future Intentions

The founder indicated that he plans to develop other frozen dessert varieties focusing on concerns that the company was silenced from addressing publicly due to Unilever.

The announcement follows co-founder Mr. Greenfield stepped down from the company recently, after decades with the organization, mentioning concerns regarding how its independence had been undermined after Unilever's decision to curb its social activism.

At that time, Mr. Cohen remarked that “My partner has a really big heart and the ongoing dispute with our parent company was breaking it."

“My conscience leads me to keep working inside the company to fight for its independence so that the company can actualise its ethical purpose, the values which it was founded on while upholding for decades," he told media outlets.
