This Swine Life: Pig Named Six Seven Pardoned by Miami Dade County Mayor.
Although not quite at the identical stature as sparing Thanksgiving turkeys, but the mayor of Miami-Dade conducted a ceremonial pardon event this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. She deserves this act of mercy. She has committed zero crimes,” stated the mayor in a speech with obvious nods to the vast quantity of pardons issued since the commencement of a current administration.
“If we disregard eating six or seven apples per day,” the mayor added. “Let this swine have a lengthy and joyful existence away from worry.”
This ceremony, which both honors and questions the local cultural practice of eating roast pork during the holidays, was founded to emulate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The swine, donated by a Coral Gables firefighter, was named for the current slang trend of young people shouting “six seven” – originating from a musical verse – often without clear purpose. The phrase became so ubiquitous that a leading lexicon site recently declared “6-7” its top term for the year.
A Peaceful Retirement
The pardoned swine is now destined to live out its days at a rural sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the event’s official press release.
“The annual pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to kick off the holiday season,” said Eric Castellanos, in a notably cheerful message.
“It captures the spirit of Miami: happy, varied, and rooted in traditions that foster togetherness. Every time, we are proud to celebrate culture and compassion in a way unique to Miami.”
Guests enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach fritters and Cuban coffee as they celebrated the pig's pardon.
