Vince Gilligan Shares He Has an Idea of How Pluribus Will Conclude... Currently.

Vince Gilligan never anticipated that the Apple TV+ show would turn into a cultural phenomenon. “I am so grateful to the audience,” he remarks. “It was unexpected the show being as passionately debated as it is, and it makes me overjoyed.”

With the first season of the popular series reaching its finale—and Season 2 officially in the works—Gilligan and his team reflected on the viewer reception and whether it will impact the narrative path of Pluribus.

About the Incredible Viewer Reception

Anyone might to get sidetracked by the rampant praise and fan theories surrounding Pluribus. Gilligan, however, is striving to avoid both.

“It's like being force fed your favorite dessert and being in a state of bliss,” he describes. “It's the greatest thing, but I learn of it from others, and that's intentional. I have never looked myself up on the internet, nor do I ever intend to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a rabbit hole I know I would fall into and then I'd be living in squalor from the hardware store and I'd never leave my living room.”

Despite Gilligan’s best intentions, there’s no way to avoid the overwhelmingly positive response to the series. The best he and his team can do is to acknowledge it humbly and try not to let it dictate the story of the show.

“It is not our goal to tailor anything,” says writer and executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The narrative we craft is not changed by audience chatter.”

“Better to keep our heads down and working,” he chimes in.

The Central Mystery: Will the showrunner See the Ending of Pluribus?

Given that Gilligan and his team aren’t being guided by audience theories, does it imply they have already decided how Pluribus will finally conclude? Essentially yes… with some caveats.

“We've developed some compelling concepts about where the show might end up,” Gilligan reveals. “yet we stand ready to discard a solid concept for a better idea. That philosophy has guided us in good stead on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We scrap ideas when we get a better idea and I suspect we'll be doing that.”

Then again, if all else fails, executive producer Gordon Smith has a rather amusing idea to use as a backup.

“I constantly suggest that the entire story is inside a snow globe, and that we'll zoom out in the finale and that's where they've been all along,” he says humorously, “but no one is buying it.”

Alternatively, why not reference the legendary finales?

“My dream is Carol to awaken next to Bob Newhart,” Gilligan adds, smiling.

Pluribus is currently available on Apple TV.
